Holiday Open House, Craft Workshop & Tree Lighting - Chappaqua

  • HORACE GREELEY HOUSE 100 King Street Chappaqua (map)

Holiday Crafts, Tree Lighting, & Opening of the “Gold in Your Attic” Special Holiday Sale

Each year the New Castle Historical Society hosts the Holiday Open House, Old Fashioned Crafts Workshop and the community’s Tree Lighting celebration at the Horace Greeley House, the Society’s headquarters and museum. This year, we will have another exciting addition to the activities – a “Gold in Your Attic” Special Holiday Sale @ the Greeley House!

Holiday Open House

The Holiday Open House will be from 1:00-5:00. The Museum is decorated for the season using items that the Greeley family would have used when it was their country home – from 1864-1873. Bows of greens and strings of cranberries, popcorn and nuts adorn the mantles. Vases of holly add cheer.

Old Fashioned Crafts Workshop

Children of all ages are invited to come and create old fashioned crafts, including paper snowflakes, corn husk dolls, pomander balls, potpourri  sachets, and paper chains, as a special gift for the holidays. They will also have an opportunity to make Victorian ornaments to decorate the tree in the Front Parlor. This workshop will be from 1:00-5:00 pm.

Tree Lighting

As darkness falls, the Society’s Tree Lighting celebration starts at 5:00 pm and marks the beginning of the holiday season. As a special treat and to delight the little ones, that jolly old elf, Santa, will pay us a visit.

Opening of the “Gold in Your Attic” Special Holiday Sale

In addition to our annual holiday activities, this year we have a special addition to the festivities – a “Gold in Your Attic” Special Holiday Sale at the Greeley House! Visitors to the Greeley House will have the opportunity to purchase unique treasures through this very special “Gold in Your Attic” sale.
