Maritime Aquarium

The Maritime Aquarium is different from most aquariums in that we focus solely on one body of water: Long Island Sound, the “Estuary of National Significance” just outside our doors. As an arm of the Atlantic Ocean, the Sound is an environment rich in aquatic life … even within sight of heavily urbanized New York City.

The marine population that we exhibit includes varieties of crabs, lobsters, mollusks (like delicious and economically important oysters and clams), game fish, jellies, sea turtles, sharks (big and small) and – in the winter – visiting seals.

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, southwestern CT is just minutes off I-95 in and with an easy walk (10minute walk) from the Metro North Railroad. There is covered parking next door (charges apply for this). If taking the train there is a discounted Getaway Package

The Aquarium is air conditioned and has an ATM, obligatory gift shop and cafe.

Within the aquarium there are different exhibitions and special exhibitions when we visited we got to see meerkats,  dragons and jellyfish. You can crawl into a glass dome and be surrounded by meerkats or jiggle a jellyfish in their tank.

There is also a pool where you can touch the sting rays and seals, otters and turtles.

An IMAX cinema also shows special movies that relate to the aquarium (separate pricing for this)
