Spotlight: Songs for Seeds is strumming their way to Westchester

This September a new music class will be coming to Scarsdale. Songs for Seeds, features a live three-piece band with as much energy as your little ones. Named "Best Music Class” by New York Magazine, this 45 minute class will encourage your children, newborn to 6 years old, to sing, dance and play along to live music.

Owner, Dana Fisher and her husband Josh decided to open a franchise of this popular New York City class, after they moved here from the City, Their kids had attended classes whilst they had lived there, and they loved the kids interaction with the live band, and how engaged they were week after week. When they moved to lower Westchester they looked into music classes and loved what Westchester had to offer but found there wasn’t anything quite like Songs for Seeds, so the two of them jumped at the opportunity to open a franchise in Scarsdale to give other children the same experience.

The class, the first outside New York City, for this company, is high energy and when we went to visit, the band was full of enthusiasm and had the children rockin along to classics such as ‘Bye-Bye Miss American Pie,’ and ‘Brown- Eyed Girl’ as well as original music written for Songs for Seeds.

The band consists of acoustic guitar, keyboard and a parent’s worst nightmare, inside the home but gladly welcomed outside….the drums! Kit is lead guitarist and hails from Pittsburgh, PA where he taught music to kids and has been playing guitar for more that 12 years. Terra is on keyboard and comes from Cincinnati, Ohio and has over 15 years experience and last but not least there is Kevin, a native of Scarsdale who joins Songs for Seeds on drums. A graduate of Scarsdale High School, Kevin has been teaching music to children for a number of years.

With class sizes ranging from 6 to a maximum of 15 children and using original tunes written by well-known children’s musician, Mr. Ray, Songs for Seeds provides a fun, stimulating, interactive experience. These classes are music focused but go a step further and each week children "travel" to a new country, create well-known nursery rhymes through visual art, perform magic tricks to highlight numbers and counting, and spin the animal wheel to reinforce animal names and sounds.  By mixing original kids rock 'n' roll with adult contemporary music, the band is sure to please little ones and their adults. If you don’t believe me watch this fantastic video of what a class encompasses....

Conveniently located at Scarsdale Synagogue with its ample parking, two classes currently exist; one is a mixed age group from newborns to 6 year olds, perfect for those with siblings or children wanting to engage with younger or older children, and another for newborns to 24 months.

Songs for Seeds also caters for birthdays and events and can come to your house or venue, subject to the venue accommodating this. Parents can choose from a 30 or 45 minute set along with the number of performers you want, ranging from a 1 piece to 3 piece band they have it all to keep your little and big ones entertained.

I’m in love and excited to see this coming to Scarsdale….Songs for Seeds Scarsdale may have just acquired their first groupie…..

Classes begin September 28.
